New Lollipop Information
Big changes are here for Fall 2007!

About Lollipop Soccer

Registration will be limited to 16 teams of 6 players each. Each team will meet on Wednesday nights to practice from 6 – 6:30 pm and play a game from 6:30 – 7 pm. The playing fields will be approximately half of a regulation field and we will use the smaller pop-up goals with no goalie. Teams will also meet on Saturday mornings for short games. The “refereeing” will be done by coaches and parents.

The goal of Lollipop soccer has always been to introduce the game and get the kids excited about playing. We feel the smaller teams and field will allow for more touches on the ball, more participation in the game and hopefully this will lead to a better sense of the game and a greater love for it.

This new system, however, will require more coaches/volunteers. Instead of 8 teams of 11-12 players, we will have teams of approx. 6 players. This could mean as many as 16 teams (therefore 16 coaches). As always, remember: we need coaches, asst. coaches, and “referees”. Referees will be in charge of keeping time and stopping play when the ball is out of bounds etc.

This year we can only promise that siblings will be put on the same team. All teams will be practicing on the same night and multiple games will be played at the same time on Saturdays so ride sharing is still feasible even if your neighbors are not on the same team. Part of the philosophy of Clifton Soccer is to branch out and meet new families/friends. Lollipop practices and games are the perfect opportunity to do this.

We are still working out many of the details but hope these changes will allow for a more enjoyable and more valuable experience for all involved. As always, we welcome your input and ideas. Finally, please consider volunteering to do at least one of the duties mentioned above. We can’t continue to run the program without you!

Thank you!
